boule de glace légère au melon

Recipe without an Ice Cream Maker

Melon flesh transforms beautifully into ice cream. While searching for ice cream recipes without an ice cream maker online, I stumbled upon Gabriele’s Italian video on “gélato al melone,” which inspired me to make this delicious melon ice cream.🍈

It requires only 2 ingredients, but for those with a sweet tooth, you can add a tablespoon of honey!

Prep Time : 15 min

Freezing: 8 hours

Ingredients for about 5 scoops of ice cream

  • 1/4 LB (200) g of melon
  • 40 to 60 ml of oat milk
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)

4 – Cover with plastic wrap and close with the lid.
5 – Place in the freezer for about 8 hours.

Step 2 : Making the Ice Cream

1 – Remove the frozen melon and place half in a blender.
2 – Blend briefly, then add the rest of the melon. Gradually pour in oat milk while blending until the mixture resembles sorbet. Add more milk as needed (I used between 40 and 60 ml in my trials).

Scoop into balls using an ice cream scoop and serve immediately!

Gisou’s tips and tricks

  • The flavor of this recipe depends on the ripeness of your melon. The sweeter the flesh, the better your ice cream will be! 😋
  • Feel free to use a different plant-based milk. Oat milk pairs nicely with the melon’s flavor.
  • Even though melon tastes very sweet, it is not very calorie-dense: It is made up of 90% water and contains only 34 calories per 100 grams.
